Künstler-Porträts und Statements 3. Yannick Dauby, Nizza/Frankreich
Brief Portrait: - 1974 born in Nice, France
Text for the CD "Chant de Dune" (Yannick Dauby 1999) Sounding sands are found in many places in the whole world. This rare natural phenomenon, is represented most of the time by beaches, whose sand is squeaking when it is struck or pushed. However, in some deserts, we meet some large dunes which have a more astonishing activity. Sand avalanches, mostly provocated by the wind, create very deep sounds, extremely powerful, accompanied by tremors and lasting for several minutes. Unexplained, these singings from the desert are despicted like roarings, voices from surnatural beings or the rumbling of the thunder. Chant de Dune is a free sounding transcription of the differents stages of the formation of these singing sands : wind that sweep the desert, accumulation of grains, transformation of the dune. reference: Le Silence des Sirènes
